Color chords to create more specific emotional atmosphere in song writing!
This is one of a bunch of cool videos relating to the songs on my albums, as well as song writing and guitar tips on playing for the song! This one is one of my clips showcasing the benefits of learning chords, to build an interesting vocabulary to speak with musically!
It's a big step in finding chords that speak to you and make you feel something, so when you are working on songs and know the feeling you're after, you'll have much more creative voicing to the progressions, that are much more specific emotionally for the atmosphere they can create, and what you can do with solos and vocals opens up as well, with limitless melody options you really feel in the entire arrangement!
I have made that a big part of my writing since high school, and the benefits are also found in how the bass & drums interact with the opened up atmospheric sound!
On this song Randy had these amazing melody chords, and Don's bass line was this perfect melody line descending down the neck behind these chords, then joining Randy in the choruses for the big open section with Oz and that great melody he sang so well on this song, full of sincerity with Don's amazing lyrics.
It's all layered melodies played for the song, with beautiful melody chords full of color, as the foundation that everything plays off of, perfectly and with soul!
