I think the worst part of being in a band, or recording a solo album, that you aren't fully into artistically, would be terrible!! If after all that work, I didn't even want to listen to the stuff, I would wonder what the point was, even if it did really well!
When I started writing songs in my teens, I was writing stuff that wasn't out there, but that I wished was out there for me to go buy at a record store. I was never just writing for my band's albums, or for a set lists. I wanted to come out of the studio with a cool new album that I actually love listening to as well! Like the stuff I grew up on, that sounds great to this day! Music to me was only satisfying as a writer and guitar player, if it was fully about the music! Not some fashion show, or ego-fest!
If you like bands like STP, Mother Love Bone, Lenny Kravitz, Led Zeppelin, Velvet Revolver, Temple Of The Dog, Foo Fighters, early Jeff Beck, Van Halen, and Randy Rhoads, you will most likely love this album!
I have 7 albums out, if you count the "Funky Shade Of Blue" album that I recorded at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle with my old Seattle scene band The Smoking Section, and this seventh album is my favorite!
It's really a special one to me as a Guitar Player, Bass Player, Lyrically, Vocally, the Melodies & Harmonies, the Drum Arrangements, as well as all of the extra work with me Engineering, Producing, Mixing, and Mastering it all myself on this album, which was exhausting, but what I came out of the studio with, made it all worthwhile! It's Seriously Not About Me ever as a writer & guitar player!! I've always been obsessed with music, not obsessed with myself, that's weird! Haha
It's seriously all about the Art Form of Recording Albums with that Passion for the actual Craft! You can hear & feel the difference on the album, since sincerity is most definitely a real thing!!
